We are a small but mighty crew of queer sugarmakers in the white mountains making some of the finest maple products in the world. We love this land, this mountain, and the sheer delight we give and receive by crafting this maple syrup. We’re ready to love you, too.

Seasonal Commitment: November 1 - April 15

Weekly Commitment: Full Time: 5 days weekly, 8-4pm. Part Time: 3 days weekly. Flexibility based on changing weather conditions.

Hourly Compensation: $16-$21 based on competence, efficiency, and experience.

Physical Requirements: The ability to hike, scramble uphill and through brush, wear a backpack full of tools, haul gear, and work with your hands all day in a variety of cold weather conditions.

Gear Requirements: Weatherproof boots, rain and snow gear, backpack, snowshoes.

Vibe Requirements: Relentlessly positive attitude and resilience in the face of pokies and ouchies. Willingness to generously communicate and support your teammates in the field. Ambition to follow through to the end of the day, and smarts to listen to your intuition and get off the mountain when the weather gets rough.

November & December We begin with a full walkthrough of the sap lines, covering each major section across our 100ac sugar bush and establishing a map of major repairs. We begin “redtooling” by walking each sap line and re-tightening, confirming tree selection, and making minor fixes to fittings and small tubing. We’ll also saw blowdowns off the lines and perform any major fixes necessary to proceed redtooling. If it’s too windy to be out in the woods, we split and stack wood for the evaporator.

Holiday Break We aim to complete all redtooling before we leave for holidays.

January & February We return from holiday to our map of remaining blowdowns and major tubing or wire repairs. We tap each of our 4,000 trees, and tackle any final fixes before turning on the vacuum for leak checking and opening up the saphouse for boil in mid/late February. We become absolutely obsessed with the forecast.

March & April We boil! The schedule is highly weather dependent, but checking for leaks in the woods and cleaning the evaporator is continuous throughout the boiling season. After our last boil in early April, we shut down the saphouse and untap each tree.
